I WON!

I would like to thank those of you who checked out Spokt.com a month ago when I blogged about it. Remember the iPod touch contest? Yes, I won! It is the first thing I have ever won in my whole life and I am way excited! I actually only had 6 entries with my name attached (6 people clicked on the link to check the web site,) but it still did the job! Thank you again to whoever gave me the 6 entries. And if you missed the chance the first time, check the site out now. It's awesome!

I am a Molly

I don't know what it is about me moving to Utah, but I have definitely turned into a Molly Mormon. Since I have lived here I have learned how to quilt, how to make bread and how to can.

Canning has definitely taken over most other hobbies this year and I am trying to figure out why. Every time I get finished filling another 20 jars I think to myself, it's worth the extra money to not have to do this myself. But then I hear another lesson on self reliance, hear Jess talking about how health care reform will usher in the Second Coming, and read how bad processed food is for you and I pull out my canner again.

On Friday chicken went on sale, we ran out of our beef I canned last March and so out came the canner. We canned some of each as well as some new recipes. We are trying out beef stew, chowder and refried beans. (I will let you know how they turn out.) Really, as I was canning this time I thought about what it is that keeps me doing it. I think in the end it is a great thing to know that I don't have to rely on Walmart if anything really bad were to happen. That fact, combined with the knowledge of what we are actually eating, makes canning kind of comforting.

For those of you who are like me, check out this link to a cool blog I discovered.

Chariots of Fire

I knew nothing but the theme music of this movie until last weekend when Jess and I saw it. It is a really great movie and I would recommend it to anyone. It is one of those inspirational true stories which I always think are great. But what was even better, was that it portrayed and commended someone with Christian values, something you almost don't see in movies anymore. (By the way, we kept waiting for the theme music to show up during the movie, but interestingly enough it only played in the opening and closing credits.)

Fanatics

You know your kids are Star Wars fanatics when...

their favorite toys for Christmas were their light sabers,
they fight over who gets to sleep with the Star Wars book that neither one of them can read,
your 6 year old wants to play pin the tail on the Bantha,
all Reanne wants for her next birthday is a Star Wars poster,
your 4 year old knows all the words to Weird Al's song "Yoda",
you hear your daughter tell your son, "You're not a Jedi yet!",
your kids change their first family vacation spot from Egypt to Tatooine,
your kids know more names and places of the movie than you do.

Europe Trip

It's official. Jess and I are definitely going to Europe. Our plane tickets are booked as well as about 10 days of hotels/hostels. This will be my first trip outside of the United States and I am excited. The date is set for May and if you notice a countdown put on my blog sometime in the future don't be surprised.
