November Tradition

This is the third year that we put up a blessing tree for the kids to fill during the month of November. This year we also added a service tree. We thought it would be good for us all to practice giving more as well as being grateful. We each picked a main service to give and then tried to be as service minded as possible for the rest of the month. I think we still need some work though. :) Our service tree is kind of bare.

Happy Birthday Sierra

Today we celebrated Sierra's birthday. We had a nice, quiet family party. (I love the non-stressful birthdays.) Sierra was so wonderful today. Even though her unthoughtful mother took her to the doctor to get her kindergarten shots in the morning and then spent a good part of day of the bleaching every nook and cranny of the house, Sierra was just so happy to have it be her special day. I found her in the bathroom once spraying and brushing her hair. She told me she had to get ready for her party later. And doesn't she look cute?
She got Polly Pockets from Reanne and Grant and a princess barbie doll from mom and dad. She was so happy.
We made Sierra a chocolate cake with fudge and carmel, with a cool whip topping. I thought it sounded good. Sierra said she didn't really like it. Bummer. But she liked blowing out the candles on it.

Happy birthday Sierra. I can't believe you're five! We are so lucky to have you as a daughter. You are wonderful.

Still sick

Reanne missed school last Thursday, Friday and Monday, so on Tuesday I sent Reanne to school again. I felt a little bad because she was coughing up her lungs all morning, but I thought she could handle it. At 1:00 that day the office called me to come pick her up. She coughed so hard that she threw up. I'm a bad mom, I know. We bought a humidifier which we turn on every night in the girl's room. Grant gets it if he needs it. But even with our new device, Reanne woke up the other night with more problems. She was screaming and when I went in to see what was wrong she had blood coming out of her nose and mouth. It was quite a shock at first until I realized that she was sucking down a bloody nose and trying to spit it out again. Gross. This happened again last night as well. Poor Sierra is now having nightmares that Reanne is going to throw up or get blood all over her during the night on her trundle bed. Switching her head to the opposite side of Reanne's helped a little.

Tonight we are prepared. Reanne is drugged with cough medicine. We put the humidifier on full blast, closed the heat vent, put Vaseline in Reanne's nose and I think I might wear earplugs.

I haven't updated for a while. This is because one or more or all of us have been sick for the past month straight. We have had colds, the stomach flu, the regular flu, strep throat, and an ear infection. You gotta love this time of year.
Even though we have been sick I did manage to get away for a night of fun. I went to a card swap night that one of my friends, Amy, puts on often. I love it. It is so fun I think.
This is the card that I made for the night. You can't tell from the picture but it has lots of glitter and bling.
And this is my favorite card that we made. It has glitter on the stockings and wings. It also has this fuzzy smock on the hat and trim of the dress. I think it is adorable.
