Sleep

I have been stressed the last few months.  I can always tell when I get stressed because I wake up with a sore mouth from clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth while I sleep.  I did that for pretty much a year straight when Jess was in Afghanistan.  Well, for the last month I have not only woken up with a sore face, but I also have been waking up in the middle of the night.  Almost every night I wake up between 2 and 3 a.m. and will be awake from 1-2 hours.  It pretty much makes me a bear in the morning.  I am one who NEEDS my sleep.

Last night Jess stepped in and had me take a melatonin pill before I went to bed.  It was to get my body "used to" sleeping through the night again.  I was very hopeful.  Did the pill work you ask?  Yes.  Did I sleep without interruption?  No.  Sierra came in sometime in the night with a bloody nose.  I looked over at Jess and marveled how he can sleep through pretty much anything.  (The only thing he has ever woken up from since we have been married is a sonic boom when we were in Florida.  He even slept through a knife fight outside our window once.)  So I got up and took care of it.  She proceeded to come in 3 more times because she couldn't fall back asleep.  Then, nearer the morning Sierra came in again because Grant had thrown up and she couldn't sleep in a smelly room.  By then Jess was gone anyway, so I got up to take care of the new mess.  Perhaps tomorrow I will sleep well?

February Happenings

February has been busy for us.  The big change happened a little before February with Jess taking on a new position at work.  He is now training, and therefore living in Ogden during the week and coming home on the weekends.  This has been a little adjustment for all of us, which is probably why I haven't posted anything for several weeks.

The next big happening was Reanne's birthday.  She turned nine on the 10th.  I warned the girls last year that we weren't doing any big parties this year.  Such a great decision.  She took two friends to see Star Wars Episode 1 in 3-D and had a great time.  I might never have a big friend party again, it was so much less stress.  Here Reanne is in Iowa about three months ago.  She is turning into a beautiful girl.

My sister Lori and her cute family came for a visit to see all of us up here in the mountains.  It was really fun visiting and our kids had a blast together.  Grant really gets along better with his cousin William than anyone else I know.  Here are a few captured moments.

We're so glad you guys visited!  We'll have to get together again soon.

One other thing we did this month, was go to the art museum for family night.  The Springville art museum  provides a free family night on the first Monday of every month.  This one was the first we attended but we will definitely be back.  It was great.  They had a guest artist come and speak.  This month it was Sean Diediker, who lives in Spanish Fork.  Among other things, he creates portraits of people out of dollar bills. The one of Donald Trump was displayed at the museum that night.  It was a very family friendly presentation.  Then they brought the BYU juggling team in and they entertained for a while.  After that they kids got to go on an art scavenger hunt.  The kids had a great time and we did too.  I definitely recommend it.

Reanne's Dresser

My dad owns some rental properties.  Every once in a while there are things that are left when renters leave the place.  (In this case, tenants left pretty much everything after a drug bust.)  An old, beat up, wood dresser was left and I claimed it.  I forgot to take a picture of it before I started working on it.  But it was really beat up...white paint chipped, broken bottom, stickers all over it.  It had a lot of dings so I thought the best look would be to antique it.

After trying to strip the paint and not succeeding, I sanded the paint off.  I put a few more dings in it in the process.  Oh well.  Then I painted it, sanded it again where I wanted to age it, and then put a wood stain over the top of the whole thing.  I wiped the stain off, put new knobs on and lined the inside with paper.  I thought the end result was pretty good and it will go perfect in Reanne's room whenever we get our new house.

The first picture is nearest the actual color.
