Happy Halloween

This year Reanne wanted to be a cowgirl and Sierra wasn't sure what she wanted to be.  I, however told them they had to wear their costumes from last year.  They still fit perfectly and that was one less thing I had to worry about.  They were really good sports about it.  Sierra told everyone she was just a princess (instead of princess Tiana) and Reanne and I decided that she looked exactly like Elizabeth Swan from Pirates of the Caribbean.  She was really happy with that.  I found Grant's pirate costume at Walmart.  I thought he was definitely the cutest pirate that I saw this year.

We discovered that there was a neighborhood trunk or treat in our cul-de-sac.  I was wiped clean of popcorn bags in about 1/2 hour so we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house.  We knocked on a couple doors in that neighborhood and then went to Grandma Great's house.  We were going to knock on doors around her house but realized the whole neighborhood was doing another trunk or treat near by.  The kids got more candy there than they know what to do with and in no time we were home again.
Although it may be a thing of the past, I miss knocking door to door with my kids.  I like seeing everyone's carved pumpkins and decorations.  I think it is fun to see them racing down the street and working for their loot.  Trunk or treating looses a little of the magic I think.

Halloween Dinner 2012

We had our 4th Halloween dinner on Monday for family night.  I didn't go all out like last year, but I am finding that pretty much everything in my life is low key right now.  I am still trying to balance everything that I have on my plate and I am finding that I am still not doing it very well.

Anyway, I think that appendages are the easiest thing to create with food.  I think we have incorporated them into all four Halloween dinners.  This year we had "finger food" for an appetizer.

We had jack-o-lantern hamburgers with monster toppings, witch's brew and eyeballs for desert.  The witch's brew was a strawberry slushy and the eyeballs were Oreo cake balls.

News of the Week

We ended our first week with Jess officially living at home again.  We are all adjusting to the change but we are happy that the 9 1/2 months of coming and going has pretty much ended.  I told Jess that I felt like a mistress that he sent money home to.  He told me that he felt like I was a mistress that got all of his money and sent a little of it back to him.

Parent teacher conferences went well.  Reanne's teacher is beginning to get to know her better.  Enough said.  I think/hope she will continue to work well with her.  I'm not sure if it is the new school or just 4th grade, but it is a little more intense than what we were used to.  Sierra is doing well in 2nd grade.  Her teacher told me that she isn't supposed to give a "very good" mark unless the student is perfect in that area.  Sierra's report card showed very good in all areas except two.  Grant started a neighborhood preschool this year.  I think he likes it but he thinks of it just as a play time with his friends and throws a big tantrum if they don't have enough time to play after they do learning activities.

Last but perhaps most exciting, is that we got a leash for the bunny.  Now he can take the kids on walks.

House Pictures

Now that we have lived here a little while and I feel kind of settled, I thought I would post some pictures of the house for those who haven't seen it yet.

Here is the front door.  Opposite this picture is a sitting room which has my old rug and some drapes but no furniture.  This hall leads to the family room which leads to the kitchen.

Eventually I would like to repaint the chairs so they all match.  That is very far down my list of things to do however.  I love having stainless steel appliances but I am really missing a magnetized fridge.

It was hard to get a good picture of the living room because of all the light coming in...but I am super happy that we have a fireplace.  You can't tell, but it is a two way fireplace so it connects with our outside porch.

My favorite thing about the house is the floor.  It is laminate but you can't tell.  It's all "scratched" to make it look like it's hand carved or from a barn, but I thought it would be great that you can't tell when we put a couple scratches in it.

I love all the trim work that they added to the house.  It is in almost every room of the house.

And I love the details they added like the transom windows.

Here is the master bath.  It is my second favorite thing about the house.  Why?  Because it has a big walk in shower.  The shower has a small window in it where I can see the mountains.  It makes getting up in the morning very nice.

This is our porch and the other side of the fireplace.  One day we will feature it a little more with a deck.

I had to take a picture of Jess's favorite room...the garage.  How did we live without one for so long?  When we were first married Jess told me he wanted to hang these posters in the living room.  He was a little disheartened when he discovered that would never happen.  Can you believe he has kept them for 11 years waiting to hang them in his man space?

Our goal is to show you another tour of the basement in about 5 years or so.

A Pet!

After a long episode of crying last night, Reanne reminded me that all the times she asked for a pet in the town home I told her "when we get a house."  She also told me that she would feel so much better if, when she was sad she had something to cuddle and love.  I thought about it for a while after the kids went to bed and discussed with Jess which kind of pet we (mostly I) could handle.  Then I went on KSL and found this big guy with cage and food for free.  That pretty much proved to me that it was a sign and that I should just go for it, which I did.

His name is Cuddles.  The girls have thanked me about a million times and given me more hugs today than I have received all year.
